Delmar L. Harris, 72, of Oblong, Illinois died Saturday, November 16, 2013 at his home in Oblong, Illinois.
Delmar was born on May 9, 1941 in Licking Township, Crawford County, Illinois. He was the son of Denzle and Myrtle (Bonham) Harris. On December 22, 1962, he married LaDonna Darnold.
Delmar worked at Briggs Manufacturing and retired after thrity years of service. When he retired, Delmar was working in the warehouse. He was a lifelong farmer with his wife LaDonna and he retired from farming in 1999. After retiring, he continued to enjoy farming by helping his son-in-law Dan Weck in the spring and fall.
Delmar was a loving and supportive husband and father. He enjoyed following Lucy in all of her endeavors from the time she started school as a child through the present day. He also enjoyed going on short road trips to festivals and antique tractor pulls with his family. Delmar was an avid Minneapolis Moline collector. He and Lucy traveled as a father-daughter team, participating in antique tractor pulls.
Delmar was a member of the Oblong Antique Tractor and Engine Club, in which he helped to organize the pull at the annual show. He was also a member of the Southeastern Illinois Tractor Pulling Association in Casey, IL.; and a member of the Oblong Class of 1959. Delmar followed NASCAR routing for Dale Jr. He and Lucy have attended several races with friends. Delmar and LaDonna have been avid sports fans attending most local games, especially softball.
Delmar is survived by his wife LaDonna Harris, Oblong, IL.; daughter and son-in-law Lucretia (Lucy) and Dan Weck, Annapolis, IL.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Charles and Shirley Darnold; special friends David Larkin and family, Walnut, IL.; a niece; nephew; several cousins and many friends.
Delmar is preceded in death by his parents and his grandmothers Vona Harris and Clara Bonham.
Celebration of Delmar’s life will be Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, IL., with Bro. Ronnie Crawford officiation. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 19, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Oblong, IL. Burial will be in the Bellair Cemetery, Bellair, IL.
